Maternity & Newborn Sessions with J&S Photography
Being a portrait photographer is special for so many reasons, but one of the most special parts of our job is getting to work with couples as they build a family for the first time. We often get inquiries from expecting parents for newborn sessions, and we always suggest that they also consider doing a maternity session too! We understand that maternity sessions are not for everyone, but we love when we get the chance to work with families for both the maternity and newborn sessions. Of course it’s important to document your brand new baby in those first two weeks, but we think it’s equally as important to get the chance to document the unique, fleeting and beautiful time in your lives just before your baby joins us earthside.
We think that this opportunity to do both sessions is so important, that we offer a very special discount on families who book both their maternity and newborn sessions with us. Contact us today if you want to learn more about our maternity & newborn combined offers! Check out the maternity & newborn sessions that we were lucky enough to capture with Lauren & Ben below, and you’ll see what we’re talking about!
Lauren and Ben’s maternity session took place on a gorgeous June evening at the Acton Arboretum in Acton, Massachusetts. We met through one of my oldest clients, Megan, who happens to be Lauren’s cousin! We absolutely love working with our clients friends and family members throughout the years, and couldn’t have been happier that Megan spread the word about us! (Thank you, Megan!!)
The extra special part of this session was that Lauren & Ben actually live and work in Liberia, and were in town visiting family in Concord, MA for the final weeks of their pregnancy. I feel so grateful that the timing worked out for us to have these two beautiful sessions together!
“As background information, we found out we were expecting in the middle of the Ebola outbreak in Liberia. As I spent much of my time working in the Emergency Operations Center, I was terrified my all-day-nausea would be misinterpreted as a symptom of something worse; plus, I was nervous I would be sent home if people found out I was pregnant. This meant that I more or less spent the first half of my pregnancy hiding (or at least not emphasizing) my bump and avoiding cameras as much as possible. Working with Jess was not only fun, but it made me (and my bump) feel beautiful. Even though we were eaten alive by mosquitoes, it was well worth it because the memories we now have from our pregnancy, thanks to such gorgeous photos, are absolutely perfect.”
No session, maternity, family or otherwise, is complete without some silliness! Lauren rocked her individual shots!
Dad agrees she’s a beauty, too – naturally!
“Ben took amazing care of me in Liberia – lots of belly, back, and foot massages! Once I got stateside, we put big headphones on my belly so he could talk to the baby everyday!” says Lauren. Isn’t that the cutest? I love that Ben was able to talk to Baby Zinner via headphones before he was able to join them in MA.
By the end of our awesome maternity session, we were not only super excited to go through their maternity images later that week, but we just could not WAIT to meet Baby Zinner!!!
Just a short 24 hours after our maternity sales appointment, I got the best email ever!! (Seriously, how lucky am I that I get to be included in announcements like this!! #bestjobever).
“As we lifted the baby to my chest, I thought to myself, “Oh my gosh, we have a daughter” (and, for the record, this was before anyone had announced the gender of the baby!)”
It’s a GIRL!!
Lauren emailed me letting me know that they welcomed the lovely Ms. Vivienne Mei to the world at 2:53pm on July 9th, 2015! She was 7lbs 2oz and 20.5″ long.
We had originally planned for a tentative July 17th newborn session and were happy to move it sooner to capture Baby Vivienne at her littlest! When booking newborn sessions, we always consider the date agreed upon as a “tentative” date, because we understand that birth is so unpredictable. We always do our best to accommodate any changes (early or late) to due dates and newborn session dates. After all, the baby is the boss!
As I expected, Little Miss Vivi was absolutely perfect for our newborn session. Look how sweet her little face is here! And those cheeks!!
We were also very lucky to get a chance to include Lauren’s parents in our session as well! Vivienne is surely surrounded by so much love.
“I invited my parents to come – we thought it would be nice to get some photos with them as well, especially since we live so far away. I didn’t realize until later how nice it had been to have them there – obviously so that we could get photos together, but also because this was their first experience doing such a photoshoot with a newborn! I think it meant a lot to them that they were included; they really enjoyed themselves and were happy to have yet another reason to stare at their grandbaby for a few hours.”
Thank you Lauren and Ben for allowing J&S Photography to be involved in such a special time in your lives. We had an absolute blast working with you guys for these two sessions, and are looking forward to Vivi’s (almost) 1 year session coming up this coming June! We cannot WAIT to see how much she’s grown!
